It's been a while since I've purchased Sephora Favorites Fragrance Sampler for Her ($65), which includes 14 different fragrance samples as well as a never-expiring voucher redeemable for a full size bottle of your choice. I wasn't able to find the original link since Sephora no longer carries this particular set, but I did manage to find the item description:
- Florabotanica by Balenciaga (Scent certificate is for 1.7 oz Eau de Parfum Spray-$100 retail value)
- Chloé by Chloé (1.7 oz Eau de Parfum-$95)
- La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme (1.7 oz Eau de Parfum-$78)
- For Her by Narciso Rodriguez (1.6 oz Eau de Toilette-$77)
- Guilty by Gucci (1.6 oz Eau de Toilette-$75)
- Love by Coach (1.7 oz Eau de Parfum-$72)
- Couture La La by Juicy Couture (1.7 oz Eau de Parfum-$70)
- Daisy by Marc Jacobs ( 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette-$70)
- Bright Crystal by Versace (1.7 oz Eau de Toilette-$70)
- Light Blue by Dolce&Gabbana (1.6 oz Eau de Toilette-$69)
- Very Irrésistible by Givenchy (1.7 oz Eau de Toilette-$69)

I originally had the intention to buy Chloe perfume, and with the 20% off VIB coupon, I ended up paying around $52 for the set, which to me is a pretty good deal. Because I already knew on which perfume I am going to use the voucher for, I never had a chance to sit down and test all the samples. But today, I was bored enough that I decided to play a game of sniffing my arms for hours. The listings below are my personal top best, mediocre, and worst perfumes.
Top 3 most memorable/pleasant scents (in order from best)
- Chloe by Chloe (fresh & musk): truly beautiful notes of fresh, floral, and musky formulated in state of the art. Best for all year around.
- Light Blue by D&G (fresh & citrus): this instantly takes me to a beautiful seaport city, and makes me feel like I’m on a vacation! The dominant citrus and woody base combination is lovely. The lasting power for this one is the weakest among the three, due to its status as EDT. Best for summer.
- Bright Crystal by Versace (fresh & floral): At first clean scent reminded me of laundry detergents, so I thought it was pretty average. But a few minutes later light yuju appears and instantly uplifts the air. Best for all year around.
The etsy-ketsy-- not bad, but not amazing (in no particular order)
- Daisy Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs: fresh & sweet, with fruity notes from lemon and strawberry.
- For Her by Narciso Rodriguez: very strong musk, probably unisex. I feel like a chic city woman at a night bar would wear this. An hour later, I sensed a pleasant spice as bottom note. Definitely a night time perfume, and I can see how some people might not like this due to its strong scent.
- Orange Sanguine by Atelier Cologne: straight up orange popsicles. Lacks sophistication.
- Nectarine Blossom & Honey by Jo Malone: peach is dominant with a hint of leafy green. I think this is such a lovely spring scent, but I don't think it goes well with both my personality and body chemistry.
- Hanae Mori by Hanae Mori: smells like the Japanese drinking yogurt (Yakult) I used to drink as a kid except it's much more heavy. It has quite noticeable warm vanilla scent as well, and it would be best worn during colder months.
- Florabotanica by Balenciaga : subtle roses are enfolded in grass & musk. It makes me feel like I'm at a herb garden!
Most boring/forgettable (in no particular order)
- Poppy by Coach: smells like a fancy bathroom…all kinds of typical soapy bath scents are mingled together, and the only note I could detect for sure was cucumber. It's not a bad scent, but it's still boring.
- Folle De Joie by Joie: fresh, detergent scent comes up first, then rose reveals at the end. The lasting power is super short.
- Florence by Tocca: one dimensional flower scent, pinning at artificial tuberoses.
- Daisy by Marc Jacobs: almost identical to daisy eu so fresh, I almost couldn't detect any difference. Perhaps the peach note is more visible and staying power is stronger than eau so fresh. Its watery-airy-freshness would give you a sophisticated, feminine vibe.
- Very Irresistible by Givenchy: wet roses and peonies with a hint of musk and powder aims to target mature or grown-up ladies. I feel like I’m walking in the perfume section inside a department store. I think this is more of a shampoo scent rather than a perfume.
- Hello by Harvey prince: boring, typical perfume that has a soapy scent. Lacks originality.
Top 5 yucky scents (in order from worst to least)
- Touch by Tocca : incense? I know this is an oil based perfume but it is extremely oily and sour. Migraine is another thing but I almost puked.
- Guilty by Gucci: almost alcohol-y, very cooling sensation. It smells like a medicine with sickening heavy sweets.
- La Vie Est Belle by Lancome: warm, vanilla with a bit of powder, which distinquishes itself from Hanae Mori. The bottle is gorgeous, too bad the scent doesn't have good chemistry with me.
- Coach by Coach: Oil... Leather...? Not sure what is, but the dominant scent is pretty horrendous and overall nausea provoking.
- Happy by Clinique: sickening sweet and spice, which overlaps with the scent of red ginseng candy.
